Badminton is a wonderful sport that has flourished over the years at Alberton High School.
Every year proves to be an unforgettable season, with lots of fun, hard work and dedication from both the players and the coaches.
Alberton High started participating in the schools league in 2005.
The school is proud to have various provincial players that participate in the South African Championships for U/15, U/17 and U/19 every year.
For the past four years the schools boys and girls A sides were unbeaten in the league.
The school participates in various tournaments during the year, by traveling to Orkney, Potchefstroom, Harrismith and Kimberley.
The tournament of all tournaments annually is the SA Schools Championships hosted in Bloemfontein every year.
In 2012 the girls A side were runner up at the SA schools and the B side unfortunately lost in the quarter finals.
In 2009 and 2010 and 2011 the girls came third of a possible 43 teams (boys and girls) that participated country wide and the boys won the SA Schools Championships in 2009.
They carried on representing South Africa at the All Africa Games that were hosted by Mauritius during the December of 2009 where they obtained a bronze medal.
League starts annually during the second term and only end within the third week of the third term.
The school is proud to be able to enter at least 2 boys teams as well as four to five girls teams in the Southerns School league.
This year the players also have the opportunity to join a badminton academy where they can get professional training and extra practicing time.
Hopefully we can be still unbeaten in the league for a fifth year.
