It is our desire to enrich the lives of our learners by exposing them to opportunities in the Cultural Field which they might not otherwise experience.
We encourage participation in at least one cultural area to facilitate the development of the whole self.
It is our belief that participation in cultural aspects of life develops the ability to enter the public world with poise, grace and confidence.
TERM 1: Public Speaking
Each year we enter two teams per grade in the annual Speech and Drama Guild Public Speaker’s competition.
Our standards are high and our Matric speakers have consistently achieved “A” symbols over the past 5 years.
We have received several Emcee awards, as well as the trophy for the school which consistently performs well.
TERM 2: House Drama
This is the opportunity for learners to throw away their fears and step onto the stage.
Although teachers are there to assist, we are proud of the creativity that stems from the learners themselves.
Plays are often scripted by learners and directed by the cast members themselves.
TERM 3: Eisteddfod
We have been entering the Alberton Eisteddfod – one of the largest Eisteddfods in Gauteng – for decades!
We enter all categories: English, Afrikaans, Art, Dance, Song, Choir and Instrumental.
In addition, our learners have excelled each year: in 2010 Ceallach Foster won the Junior High School’s English Section; and several other learners won 25 items over the various sections.
Our Girls’ Choir consistently places first in their category
Girls’ Choir – run by the esteemed Choir Master Mr. Henk Barnard
Chess – an opportunity to challenge the mind and learn to strategise
Cultural Awards Evening – hosted by our own learners; the final recognition of all the year’s efforts!
