The subject Tourism introduces and orientate learners to the tourism industry.

In addition, the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes gained in this subject will prepare learners for lifelong learning, and the world of work.

It will also equip them to identify related entrepreneurial opportunities.

Tourism will develop an awareness and knowledge of the importance and need to support inbound and domestic tourism in South Africa.

Tourism will ensure an appreciation and knowledge of the importance of tourism and related services and their impact and benefit to the diverse communities and the economy of South Africa.


The subject Hospitality Studies covers theoretical and operational aspects of food and beverage preparation and service, incorporating the principles of safety, hygiene and environmental awareness.

It provides learners with an understanding of the various sectors and diverse contexts that comprise the hospitality industry.

Hospitality Studies will equip learners with skills, knowledge, attitudes and values related to real-world situations in the food and beverage industry.

The integrated competencies that are covered in this subject will enhance the quality of life of the learners and others by providing the necessary resources for successful operation in the hospitality field, including small,medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) and community-based operations.
